The Employment Rights Bill received Royal Assent on 18 December, and is now the Employment Rights Act 2025. This landmark legislation, described by the Government as the "biggest upgrade to rights at work for a generation," will affect organisations of all sizes, including state-funded schools, independent schools, academy trusts, and further education institutions.

Coming into effect immediately is the repeal of the Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Act 2023, which is a change aimed at reshaping the balance between industrial action and public service continuity.

This year, we are expecting further updates, including consultations and an impact assessment on the planned removal of the cap on unfair dismissal compensation.

To help organisations respond to the new legislation with clarity and confidence, we have set up our Employment Rights Hub, which brings together legal expertise and HR know-how. We are focussed on helping employers interpret, plan, and manage the change in legislation. It’s not just about legal compliance – it’s about leading change that feels forward-thinking, and true to your values.

We have a team of specialist employment solicitors and HR consultants on hand, and you can access the Hub’s resources, including updates, articles and webinars on the Stone King website.
