Higgs v Farmor’s School – employee’s dismissal for social media posts was discriminatory

All schools must deal effectively with expressions of protected belief as defined under the Equality Act 2010. But what happens when two sets of protected beliefs are in conflict? That was the case in Higgs v Farmor's School, when a Christian teacher was dismissed for Facebook posts that were considered transphobic and homophobic. Following a lengthy process involving the Employment Tribunal and the Employment Appeal Tribunal, the Claimant was eventually successful in the Court of Appeal.
