Government to Introduce Enhanced Family and Flexible Work Rights
The Government is supporting a series of Private Members' Bills designed to enhance family-related and flexible working rights.
The Protection from Redundancy (Pregnancy and Family Leave) Bill will extend redundancy protection for employees during or after pregnancy, as well as after periods of maternity, adoption or shared parental leave.
The Carer's Leave Bill will introduce a day one right for employees to take up to one week's unpaid leave per year to provide or arrange care.
The Neonatal Care (Leave and Pay) Bill will also introduce a day one right to up to 12 weeks' leave for parents whose babies require neonatal care. Employees with more than 26 weeks' service will qualify for the right to statutory pay during their leave.
The Employment Relations (Flexible Working) Bill will also make the right to make a flexible work request a day one right.
Finally, the Workers (Predictable Terms and Conditions) Bill will create a new right for workers and agency workers to request a more predictable working pattern, using a framework similar to the flexible work request framework.
