The Government recognised that many UK schools need vital maintenance repair that, if not addressed could result in the temporary closure of areas, if not the whole school on health and safety grounds. For this reason, the ESFA has funding streams in place for academies, or applying academies, to tackle these issues before they escalate.
The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), an annual bidding round for academies and sixth-form colleges to apply for capital funding, is just one of those funding streams which we have successfully helped schools to secure.
The core priority of the CIF is to address significant condition need, keeping buildings safe and in good working order. The CIF also supports a small number of expansion projects for those rated by Ofsted as good or outstanding, which includes expanding existing facilities or floor space to increase the number of admissions in the main year of entry or address overcrowding.
We have provided detailed reports on the condition of the schools' buildings and have secured over £30 million in funding.
