Until recently, to most of us in the Education sector, artificial intelligence (AI) was a somewhat abstract concept. But that concept has become dramatically real with the launch of ChatGPT and similar products.
These generative AI models are increasingly being used to power bespoke applications for schools, which will have a potentially transformative effect on many aspects of schools' operations. Personalised learning will get more and more powerful. AI-based tools will increasingly support the generation of teaching aids, and administrative processes will become more streamlined saving schools and staff time and cost.
But the rapid development of generative AI introduces profound challenges too, in terms of issues around academic integrity, data privacy and security, governance and procedures, and terms with product providers. Schools will need to update (or create new) policies and governance frameworks to reflect the role played by AI in their organisation.
At VWV, our education and technology specialists are supporting schools to embrace the opportunities and meet the challenges presented by the rapidly developing AI landscape.
