A proactive and strategic approach to school estate management is essential for health and safety compliance and for supporting educational needs and goals.

Following the extension of circumstances under which a Notice to Improve (NtI) can be issued, the implementation of a robust estate strategy and asset management plan has never been more important. Schools must demonstrate that they are creating a safe and secure environment for all users by:

  • Ensuring policies and procedures are well-documented and align with legal requirements.
  • Complying with Health and Safety Law and Statutory Inspecting and Testing. Key areas include Asbestos, Fire Safety, Legionella and RAAC.
  • Providing regular training to staff to ensure they have the skills necessary to address property-related issues.
  • Having a clear understanding of the condition of your school buildings.

Planned Preventative Maintenance

An independent estate review will support your school with the development of a proactive estate strategy and will help keep your estate safe, warm and dry.

One of the most effective tools for this is a Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) survey, which:

  • P- Prioritises identified defects and provides cost estimates for repair
  • P- Provides a 5-10 year capital expenditure plan helping to budget for necessary works and times projects efficiently.
  • M - Measures the condition of buildings (roofs, windows, floors etc) and mechanical and electrical equipment (boiler, electrics, etc).

Synergy’s surveyors offer a comprehensive PPM service to help schools keep their buildings safe, compliant and in the best possible condition.
